„BERLIN AND OTHER BIOGRAPHICAL TOURS“

Exhibition: 10.01.2020 – 29.02.2020. ’BERLIN AND OTHER BIOGRAPHICAL TOURS’ is a new art exhibition of a well-known Lithuanian media artist prof. Ph. D. Remigijus Venckus. In the exhibition will be shown experimental photos about the Berlin City and some early photos, which were created in 2009. The opening show starts on 10 January 2020 at 5:00pm. At 4:00 pm the author will deliver the public workshop about his art.
Critic Gabrielė Kuizinaitė on Venckus’ photo cycle about Berlin: The artist has been to Berlin 4 times. R. Venckus viewed works of art displayed in museums and art galleries in the capital of Germany. On his rather long journey, he was engaged in the process of self-discovery. The present exhibition was inspired by the photographic series Locations of Diaries that contained photos taken by the artist while visiting different locations: Krakow, Warsaw, the Tatras and others. The series is the sequel to Berlin Diary, a collection of essays and photographs created by the artist earlier. The first version of the collection was dominated by black and white minimalist photography. Focus was on the aesthetic decision rather than technology. Later colour experiments started to follow by emergence of the man (probably a fellow traveler) in the center of the composition. The artist's journey is a long process, during which self-examination and exploration of the environment, the relationship with the "other" space and the "other" time as well as time-space continuum are important.
"For me, photography is like a game that not only offers new possibilities of storytelling but also instigates suspicion of forgery in the prevailing stereotypes and stories. I fake the pictures that I take", the artist says about his creative work.
